My aim in this project was to investigate how the moving imagery of video and the still imagery of painting could be used together to tell a story. The story, "Ouch, You Hurt Me," illustrates the resilient nature of human beings; specifically our amazing capacity to heal from the deepest of emotional wounds.

The looped video is a performance art piece in which I hold a small red pin cushion (symbolizing the heart) in my hands as an offering. When someone removes a pin and pricks my outstretched hand, I pull back in shock and pain. Yet, to my surprise, I discover that my wound has healed quickly and quietly announce, “All better now.”

The painting is based directly upon the opening image of the video. The red pin cushion used in the video is also adhered directly into the surface of the painting. In this way, the painting illustrates the video, and vice versa.
